The Bitcoin Gold (BTG) is the result of splitting the chain  (Hard Fork) of Bitcoin held on  October 24, 2017. The idea is for people with ordinary computers to also be able to mine Bitcoin Gold and further decentralize the network from a small group of people who have powerful computer and special equipments to mine Bitcoin.

Bitcoin Gold explained

The goal of Bitcoin Gold is to be an improvement of Bitcoin where it fell short.
The vision for Bitcoin when it was created was that anybody who has a computer at home will be able to participate in Bitcoin mining, earning a little extra cash while their computers help support the network. People realized the increasing value of Bitcoin and saw that there is a far more efficient way of mining through application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs).
With this, mining became a very specialized industry where big companies or mining farms had a monopoly on mining power.

To understand the magnitude of the problem that has existed so far, you need to understand how mining works

How Mining works

Simplified 3-step process:
  1. User transactions are gathered in a "block" that are then transformed into complex mathematical equation.
  2. Miners (Crypto miners) use supercomputers or ASIC miners to solve these equations thereby confirming the transactions.
  3. When the transaction confirmation is completed, the network rewards the Miners with Bitcoin.  Then back to the first step.

How powerful is an ASIC Miner?

Bitcoins are produced exclusively by ASIC Miners. Bitcoin algorithm is based on SHA256 which requires Processor power.
An average computer processor we use in our homes can do SHA mining at speeds of 5 to 10 MH / s. An ASIC miner can do SHA mining at speeds of up to 14 TH / s. That's about 3 million times more than your processor.

If I have Bitcoin, do I also get Bitcoin Gold?

Everyone who owned Bitcoin at the time of the Fork on October 24,2017 (up to block 491407) automatically became Bitcoin Gold holders. If your Bitcoin were kept in an online wallet, you have to search on how you can claim them.

Bitcoin Gold Wallet

Although there are a number of ways to create a Bitcoin Gold wallet, you should never forget that online wallets can provide relatively easy access to your cryptos, but the price can prove to be too expensive as security issues always arise and will put your currencies at risk.
That's why we strongly recommend buying a hardware wallet so you always have full control over your coins without relying on an online wallet that may be hacked and your coins wings once and for all.

We tried and highly recommend the best hardware wallet right now on market the  Ledger  Nano S or Ledger Blue .
